The First Hippo On the moon

The First Hippo On The Moon

From Number One bestselling Children’s author David Walliams comes an explosively funny space adventure for children of 3 and up. Two fat hippos. One ENORMOUS dream. Who can make it to the moon first? The First Hippo on the Moon is playing at The Churchill Theatre until this Saturday.

3 ...2 ...1 ...BLAST OFF!

David Walliams has taken the literary world by storm, and his brilliantly funny stories are adored by children the world over! He has achieved unprecedented critical acclaim and quickly developed a reputation as a natural successor to Roald Dahl. His books have been translated into over 45 languages and sold over 9.5 million copies in the UK alone.

The First Hippo On The Moon

Funny story to this show.. we all know David Walliams for his comedy and him in general, so I was interested to see how and if he was able to pull off entertaining children to go beside us adults.
When I saw The First Hippo On The Moon advertised I booked it up, sadly the theatre had to cancel my day it was showing, and I was unable to see the other days due to other commitments.

When I was given a chance to see it again, I snatched that opportunity up like nothing.

The auditorium wasn't very full but in a way was more of an intimate setting.
We were able to have seats close to the stage which was beneficial for the monkey, not a very long concentration span and with the autism, with possible ADHD it's hard to know if I'll have to grab her out of the show.

The First Hippo On The Moon

The stage was set up, and it felt like we were in the jungle, I have to admit it was a good show I loved the three types of variations that were used, on stage human-sized puppets, on stage mini puppets for the moon scene, and the television puppets.
I was very impressed with how three people were able to master and stay in sync with the monkey's movements, and Evie had fun dancing to some of Sheila's songs.

I feel there was a strong message le petit theatre and David Walliams had to bring to the younger generation, always have a dream and keep reaching for it, but don't discredit people that have helped you along the way.

David Walliams has a few more theatre productions going on, and I honestly look forward to getting a chance to see them.

Ripley’s Believe it or not – Wicked

Ripley's Believe it or not - Wicked

We had the amazing opportunity to go up London and attend Ripley's Believe it or not, featuring Wicked, since me and KK had already been to see Wicked Musical - check out our Review HERE-
I thought it would be great to go and see more Wicked theme events since we want to Defy Gravity hehe

Ripley's Believe it or not Wicked

We arrived in good time and the entrance had some fantastic Artefacts on show, a mini with millions of Swarovski crystals. Optimus Prime from Transformers who is 18 Feet Tall made from recycled steel- salvaged from broken down old cars, and the hungarian Horntail from Harry Potter !

we was able to stand next to the tallest man, Robert Wadlow who was 8 ft 11” tall now Im wondering where he got his clothes from !

upon entering the magical world we was presented with our VIP Pass - OHHH AHHH - KK had a massive grin on her face.

Ripley's believe it or not Wicked

And then it all changed we was out into the vortex and had to try and get through without falling, sounds funny but its a fast spinning cylinder with an industrial ramp for you to go through, its a pretty good head F*CK.

KK was scared at first then decided she wanted to keep going back and forth to get over the fear of it..

when we finally moved from there we went through different rooms with all their usual pieces on show, really interesting the things you find out, art from pop caps and all different facts about other countries

ripleys believe it or not Wicked

when we arrived and the Wicked exhibition we was greeted with selection of appetisers and some choice on drinks, very nice and well thought out.

Glinda's and Elphaba's dress were on show was beautiful and the shoes costumes and detail was amazing to see up close.

It was disappointing their was only one face painter and the line wasn’t organised well, I understand younger children get excited and push in front but when you have been waiting over half an hour and 3 people have pushed in did take the biscuit and lead to KK having a Meltdown.

I mention this because I was impressed with how the staff handled the situation, once she calmed down we was taken down to get some sweets and a drink then we was given the chance to play in the Vortex and then the Laser maze which KK did really well on in fact she had the top score !

Snow White and the seven dwarfs Panto

My review

Well everyone loves a panto, don't they?

Oh no, they don't! Oh yes, they do! Sorry, I couldn't resist the cheesiness of that!

But who is the funny man to have as star role? Well, none other than Joe Pasquale, he has a song that will get on ya nerves, get on you nerves, but funny man Joe won our hearts many years ago and had been out of the limelight for a short time then he popped up on I'm a celebrity get me out of here!!!
As you guessed, Joe who was crowned king of the jungle, and now he's doing panto

I've been to a couple of pantomimes but given the technology they have now it did add the extra bit, although KK screamed through the 3D part I thought it was cool. And how muddles were on the motorcycle that drove over people's heads well that had Keira in awe.

I like how they had bits of adults and slapstick comedy for the kids. Very cleverly articulated and as always the stage props looked fantastic.

Kidtropolis Event Review

kidtropolis Map

The event started at 2 pm for us; there were two slots some for 9.30 earlier time

It was the first day this event was open, and as to be expected some issues hopefully will be addressed for the next couple of days that the event is on.
With wristband allowed in and out of the main attraction for food.
Buggies and pushchairs are fine thankfully as I don’t think for, four hours Evie could have stood up.

I still point negatives quickly

– No time limits for kids, making rather long ques
– Not much for under 5s,
– A lot of selling stands – so be prepared for the sale pitches

Keira was able to go roller disco and climb the wall the safety aspects showed with Kingswood camp you can see they are on top of that.
Meeting Tiana, she enjoyed that

I do think events like that should have an area where the kids que for meet and greets.
As a lot of children typically got excited and wanted pictures with her, Keira was waiting, and other kids jumped in front which upset Keira, she finds waiting, and numbers before her turn, being autistic frustration is easy for her.

The event was nice; I was upset over one thing; there was a car at the back of the room sectioned, and I was thinking ok a random car? Upon closer inspection, it was my beloved Bumblebee from Transformers, so upset to see him there and not on Exhibit how Optimus Prime was. There wasn’t space for proper photographs to be taken with Optimus Prime, was a case of a quick snap in the hope of getting a decent picture.

To see monkey play on the little train and the little play area was lovely, just a shame there wasn’t any chairs to sit on, but I can see from the safety aspect so it for me wasn’t a massive issue.

Upon these positives and negatives, I’m sure that the next event taken on will be a lot better experience for parents and children.

Have you been to this years Kidtropolis ?

if so what did you enjoy and what changes do you think could be made for future events?

Baby Swimming Confidence Class with Fusion PT 2

When Roxanne was telling us what we had to do, I was worried in case Evie hit me in the process of trying to follow instruction,
we sang Humpty Dumpty, where the baby went on the side of the pool and then when he bumped his head back in the water.
It was to show them getting in and out of the water for the next step; it was to let them “swim” to the edge and know how to climb out of the pool safely and with confidence.
I was unsure if even would have the patients to pull herself up, but she did and with ease. In theory, when she is at the side of a pool, Evie should know how to get out if needed. They used repetitions the more you practice, the easier it becomes to remember.
With lots of blowing and splashing to get them kicking their feet and then blowing to encourage breathing before heading under the water.
Then the scary bit, Evie hadn’t been under the water before but I trusted Roxanne and she went to her with no issues. Started with the regular encourage to swim movements and then looked at her and blew in her face (this was to make sure she breathed in before heading under) she did well and didn’t react to shocked when she came to the surface, the photographs and filming are amazing.
Fusion under
In the end, we said our thank yous and goodbyes, Evie didn’t want to get out as she was having fun, which is a good sign for the class.
Overall our experience was fantastic; I’m thankful I was able to get photographs of our session something I got emotional over.
Roxanne was wonderfully warm and friendly; we even got a goodie bag with Dory bits and a little booklet of the different swim stages if you take lessons it’s a little passport if you will. I found that cute, I like little booklets like that, shows dates when achieved the target and I love certificates and badges, Keira used to go to a swim school.
In schools children only go swimming for one year, I think national curriculum needs to make swimming more of a need to learn safety is a must.
As I live close to the glass mill leisure centre, I’m going to see what age would be good for Evie to start attending lessons.
Roxanne is the head swimming teacher and is ASA (Amature Swimming Association), qualified which primarily helps your children or yourself in progressing at swimming; you assessed at each stage the ASA have a framework to which each person works for. Fusion Lifestyle is fully equipped to provide a fun and enjoyable lesson.
Shots of our ASA booklet, I believe when each level completed you received a
certificate with the child’s name and date target was achieved.
Swim Confidence Fusion
name and dated along with a swimming badge that gets sewn onto the swimming costume.
I believe Knowledge is power and the key to survival!
There sadly has been so many young children dying through drowning, whether it is on the beach or the bath, provide your child with the know how early enough to prevent deaths.
I hope you have enjoyed my Posts and “Just Keep Swimming”

The Stickman Live September 2016

the stick man live 2

My thoughts

I took Monkey on a little treat to see The Stickman; I thought it was going to be like the Gruffalo!

Tickets printed and a short drive to the Orchard Theatre, I handed my ticket to the usher for seating guidance. We had front row seat, and the monkey was given a booster seat. As we waited for the show to begin,  there was no photography allowed, but I managed to take a shot of the stage set up and a cheeky picture of monkey who wasn’t too thrilled about having to sit in a booster seat,
the stick man live show
As the lights lowered, and the music started, to announce the start of the show which consisted of three actors appeared, two men and a woman. Who all took turns in their different roles and later in the show interacted with each other.
The amateur dramatics put into the stickman was very well presented, the props and the sounds were very pleasing visually. Even down to the snow scene, they even dropped the temperature down, so we felt that chill the stimulating effects were superb and well executed.
Monkey enjoyed waving to the people and making her dog pant noise to show she knows it’s a dog, monkey isn’t verbally communicating just yet ( I will go into this more in a different post )
There was a bit where stickman, the dog, and the dog warden ran out into the audience, this for an older child of 4 or 5 I could see being exciting but a few younger kiddies were crying, and the monkey was a little frightened.
I like how the audience was brought in to engage with the actors and a bit of the old ‘he’s behind you’ Is always fun.
The lighting caught monkey’s eye a few times, and she enjoyed the colour changes of scenes.
Overall, I for some reason expect different outcomes from the theatre and am often guilty of comparing to the film if there was one originally, see here for my Dirty Dancing review and rocky horror show review.
So to summarise this is a good show to take children to see. Worth a watch!
In October I’m looking forward to taking Monkey to see the very hungry caterpillar show which I will include on my blog!
Thank you for coming back!

Do you have any recommendations for shows to take kk and monkey or mummies treat night?
